Article Processing Charges

(Applies to articles submitted after February 1, 2019)

All articles published in Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Therapy are Open Access and freely available online. To cover the cost for providing our high-quality publishing service and free access to readers, an article processing charge (APC) of $1390 applies to papers accepted after peer review. The APC covers provision of online tools for editors and authors, article production and hosting, liaison with abstracting and indexing services, customer services, etc.

The article processing charges will be waived in the following scenarios according to our waiver policy:

3b. Discount based on author’s economic situation* 695USD (50% discount)

* Please specify in the cover letter that your submission falls within this category and provide a short explanation if necessary.


NOTE: The APC policy is subject to change if circumstances may require. Waiver decisions provided by the editor and editorial office are considered final.


Specification regarding the APC waiver policy:

1. All invited articles are free of charge.

This includes invited articles for ‘Focus Issues’ under the guidance of our Guest Editors.


2. Waiver based on scientific value of submission (top 25% of all submission)

Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Therapy offers APC waivers to high quality papers. Authors should state in the cover letter that the submission should be considered in this category. Requests made during the review process or after acceptance will not be considered. To request a waiver please contact editor@thecdt.org. The decision will be based on internal and external review of the paper. 

The editorial office will provide a final decision about the waiver with the first decision letter after the first round of review (e.g. REVISE with charges, REVISE with no charge).


3a/b Waiver based on economic situation

Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Therapy offers full waivers or 50% discounts of the APC to authors who cannot afford the full APC based on their financial situation. This includes corresponding authors from countries commonly classified as lower income countries. (Please refer to e.g. the World Bank classification of low-income and low-middle income economies:

Please request the waiver or discount at the time of submission. Requests made during the review process or after acceptance will not be considered. To request a waiver please contact editor@thecdt.org.
